    A regular visit :)

The day started with mass warm up activities, followed by grouping the residents and volunteers into clusters according to color of their name tags

Arts and crafts session was to make a shaker instrument using plastic cups and beans.

Story-telling session was to listen and interact with the story-teller, Yizhu, while referencing to storybooks borrowed from the National Library.

Hockey stick session was pretty fun, residents are to hit the ball to assigned chairs labelled with different numbers.

Table soccer session was well-received, as residents and volunteers were to fan the ping pong ball off the opponents' side.

We ended the day with a mass game of competing to keep the balloons up in the air.

We hope you had a great day as much as we did!
    See you all next week!

  • Latest Visit

    OTOT(Encore!)

After fewweeks of planned visiting, last week’s program is more of an OTOT (own time, own target) theme. Despite so, we still managed to do up a pretty great job! :D

Probablydue to the mid-semester exams fatigue and frantic, we had a low volunteer count last Saturday. Coincidentally, the residents count was low too, as many others went offfor some outing. Hence we were still able to manage.

Below aresome photographs of today’s visit!

    Residents made peacocks!

    The forever entertaining game:)

    2 vs 2 match

    The matching pair

Signingoff, we wish everyone all the best in their exams, rest well, remember to takeyour little breaks in between, and lastly, see you all next week J ItsCARNIVAL THEME!!! :D

  • CNY celebration at Bishan Home

    Happy Chinese New Year!

This was 2 days before the actual Chinese NewYear date, the sub-committee actually brought forward this event to celebrate with the residents at Bishan Home!

Volunteers came mostly in RED outfit, in tie with our CNY theme of this week.

The planning of this event took about 2 weeks, with special thanks to Kaixin, Ayden, Harold, Russell, Guocong, Wynne, Jiamin and Kelly for this, as well as Weiting and Zi En for helping to play as villagers for the skit!

Arts and crafts included calligraphy, decorative firecracker making, and colouring!

Residents learn to write the word
” and decorate it with a colouring of thedragon pasted on the other side, as well as a decorative firecracker attachedto the bottom.

Games included pass the parcel, poison ball(suggested by Xiaofang for the previous outing), throwing rings into cones toearn candies, stack the oranges, fishing and hopscotch!

Pass the parcel game: Featuring a very cute lion dance costume made by Kaixin! The forfeit of the game is to dance around in the costume.

Poison ball: Residents and volunteers have to stand within the marked boundaries and balls will be rolled across that zone. They will have to run to avoid being hit by the fast moving balls.

Residents are to throw rings into cones in order to win candies.

Stack the orange: Residents are to stack oranges and to compete for the fastest orange-stacker title.

    Fishing for numbers

We ended the visit with a skit (written by Guo Cong), the story of Nian, and hongbao giving session by Cai-shen-ye, the God ofWealth, played by Harold! Residents received a red packet each, and were quick to discover a chocolate coin inside!

This is definitely one of the most enjoyable visit, with residents wishing us “gong xi gong xi” and singing the good old CNY songs.

Here, we thank all of you volunteers for helping to make this visit a success. If you had not make it for this CNY visit,we still hope to see you soon!. Do drop by, and see ya!

Sorry for the late updates! :X

OUTING! This time round, we went to Haw Par Villa.

Residents were thrilled by the place, posing with the life-sized legendary characters as they stroll around, getting peeks of turtles and dragonflies.

Volunteers paired up with the residents to explore the area, while filling up an activity guide, scribbling their answers onto the sheet of paper.

Example of a question in the activity guide.

    >>Residents alighted from the tour bus and where paired up with a volunteer each.

    >>Busy posing for a photo~

  • Christmas Special Updates! :D

    Merry Christmas!! :DD

I’m sure this is one memorable visit, made possible by great planning of the Christmas sub-comm - Kaxin, Peiling, Michelle, Agnes and Harold. { ^-o-^} Committee members from our main CSC body came down to participate too! :)

Firstly, the arts and craft for last week was to make a Santa Claus hat! Using cotton balls, coloured paper and markers, residents made their own personalized hat to complement the occasion!

We had a sports station too where the residents had to use balloons to aim into hand-held hula hoops:D Different heights of hula hoops were used to increase difficulty of the game. There was also the usual popular bowling station.

There was a special group bonding activity which was to transfer wrapped presents using garbage bags, by flipping them over to the person sitting right beside, all the way to the end of the chain. This station helps the residents and volunteers to build up teamwork.

Last but not least, let’s not forget the gifts wrapping station! Many residents were thrilled by the presence of marshmallows, enticing them to participate even more! Residents were told to scoop up candies and marshmallows and lead to a gift wrapping corner to wrap their own presents. (We spotted many residents heading back wanting to play the game once more!)

Hwai Kit as Santa Claus! Thank you! :D

We ended the day with a mass sing and dance session, and a group photo!

    Thank you volunteers! <3!

This coming Saturday, there won’t be any visit. However, there will be an outing on the 7th! Stay on for more updates then! Cheers!

**Currently we are in need of volunteers to help out in planning of the upcoming 7 January BH outing for the residents.:( If you are interested or have any interesting ideas etc, do feel free to contact Ayden! Thanks!! :D

  • Updates on 17th dec visit!!

On 17th December, we had volunteers from CSC joining for our visit! They brought along some games to form a station for the residents to try out! :)

As many volunteers were away for family vacations, we had an interesting mix of volunteers!

There were four stations - Using back the popular sport of bowling, CSC’s station of remote communication, Frisbee sport, and arts and crafts station of making a Jellyfish/Squid:D

Below are some of photos of this visit. Enjoy! :)

    -->How the Jellyfish/Squid/wateva-you’d-call-it looks like

--> DHL’s volunteers dropped by the hall for a while.

  • Woodlands Library Updates!! :D

MOST of us have finished our exams, and it’s now the HOLIDAYS!

Last Saturday was an outing to Woodlands library for an Arts and Disability Showcase. We were presented with a song and dance done by a few children with learning difficulties, speeches made by the guest -of-honor,Mr Arthur Fong, and then a skit titled “Elephant with Small Ears” by a few primary school children.

After we had lunch (provided by the National Library), the residents headed over to the hands-on stations to try out activities such as painting and dough sculpturing.

Overall, this was a nice experience, and we gained some new ideas for our handicraft sessions in future.

Below are some of the shots of the event. Enjoy! :D

Visit resumes this 17th of December,Saturday, 10-12pm as usual at BHID. :)
We are currently recruiting members to help organize the activities of our following event:

  • Our last visit b4 the exams!!

Last visit before the exams break!

This was (yes, sorry for being 2 weeks late for updating, really busy!) the last visit before the hardcore mugging began. Residents today were generally less functional than the usual crowd, as there was a birthday celebration happening at the canteen below.

Much like our OTOT, look at the pictures for more.

This marks the end of today’s visit. Everyone, please study hard for your exams, don’t forget to rest well and drink more water. See you in December! :DDD
